Aldgate Press was set up in 1981 with funds from Friends of Freedom Press (Freedom Press was started in 1886 by a group of people that included the Russian anarchist Peter Kropotkin, Charlotte Wilson and Tom Knell and continues today - see link below). Although it prints for Freedom Press, Aldgate Press is an autonomous enterprise.
